Arizona

Since last Wednesday, I am In Arizona to participate in the Ironman next Sunday, April 15. This will be the first race of my 2007 season and I am quite eager to start! This year I have had a good preparation, first in South- Africa and then in Lanzarote. I think my condition is good.. or at least, that's how it felt during my training. Over here in Arizona I am staying in the house of Anne, a friendly women whom Sofie met last year in Hawaii. Faris Al Sultan has stayed in her house two years ago and has won the race then, so I hope i can take advantage of similar 'good vibes'. Anyway, Anne is doing her utmost best to make my life as pleasant as possible. She came to the airport to pick me up, even made lasagna for me, got me allowed in the health club for my swimming training and finally managed to get me a local club of supporters. Anne will participate in the Ironman too, so she knows what an athlete needs to prepare himself in the week before the race.
I am feeling quite at ease here and I just have finished the last days of heavy training. From now on I will taper towards the race on Sunday. Yesterday Claude, my coach, has arrived. It's a pleasure to prepare in all details for the race with him. Claude will be a great help on Sunday, especially since my wife Sofie and daughter Tille have stayed home. They will have to support me via the computer.
Today, I am going to explore the neighbourhood with Claude. I will come back in a few days on this blog to let you all know how things are moving over here.

regards,

Rutger
